LifeVantage Review: By ExpertMLMReview
Founded in 2003, LifeVantage Corporation is a publicly traded (ticker LFVN) network marketing company specializing in scientific anti-aging products utilizing its clinically studied Protandim supplement.
LifeVantage has a very interesting history…
Their stock went through the roof back on 2005 after the release of clinical studies and TV specials by ABC, the Today Show and PBS regarding their Protandim product. This early publicity sent their stock up to over $20 per share but it could not stay there without sales to backup the publicity. At this point Protantim was only available through retail channels and it did not do well on the shelves of nutritional stores.
In May of 2009, after more than 6 months of planning and preparation they turned to network marketing for distribution. Not surprising to those who understand the power of MLM, LifeVantage sales have dramatically increased and in turn their stock price has more than tripled from its low of less than $0.10 in November of 2008. Still a bit too early to say, but it looks like MLM is proving to be a good fit.
As with every review, let’s start off with the easiest place to spot a scam… THE PRODUCT!
Protandim Review – I can’t speak for the product because I’ve not yet tried it. What I can say is I am more inclined to try it than any other nutritional product I’ve seen recently due to the extensive clinical research and peer reviewed studies that have gone into it. Over 20 universities have initiated various self funded medical studies on the product in relationship to its relation on anti-aging and disease. Several have been completed and are posted on www.pubmed.gov under Protandim to view.
Unlike most nutritional products, Protandim is not an antioxidant by way of supplementation but rather a product that stimulates the body’s production of its own natural enzymes which the body uses to destroy free radicals. Clinical studies appear to prove that it is many times more effective than ingesting external antioxidants for this purpose. The LifeVantage corporate website (http://www.lifevantage.com) gives access to all the studies, reports and news videos releases on their product that explains how it works and what it does.
What I like most about this product is the unique marketing angle it has…
Unlike most network marketing companies which must resort to the old “try it out (for 30, 60 or 90 days) and see how you feel” line, LifeVantage distributors are able to honestly say that Protandim is clinically proven to reduce oxidative stress by slowing down the rate of cell aging to the level of a 20 year old.
This alone is not enough to build a business on, but it’s a great ice breaker for distributors. Often the hardest part in building a nutritional MLM business is getting people to try the product and LifeVantage seems to have a bit of an advantage in this area.
As for the price of the product, I was also pleasantly surprised. In an industry where product auto ships are routinely over $100 per month, a one month autoship supply of Protandim for a retail “preferred customer” is only $39! This pricing is far less than the industry norm, thus making it possible to acquire true retail customers.
In addition to the core Protandim product, LifeVantage also has a skin care product called TrueScience which is a skin cream designed with the anti-aging properties of Protandim. What I like about the overall product line is its simplicity; just two core products, with one core selling point, and a price that is actually reasonable.
Ultimately it is going to take more than research and publicity for a product to make it. Protandim will have to make a noticeable impact on the wellbeing of people taking it, whether it be more energy, better sleep, not getting sick as often, etc. There are not too many people who will spend money on a product every month on studies alone. LifeVantage Compensation Plan
I’m not going to even touch the topic of how lucrative the compensation plan is. There is plenty of money available in every compensation plan as long as it’s legal. If you hear somebody going on about how their compensation plan pays the most money in the industry, good chance something is not right.
Technically speaking LifeVantage utilizes a unilevel comp plan paying down 9 dynamically compressed levels with the potential for a matching bonus on the first 4 levels and a coded bonus for Vantage pack qualifiers that allows for bonuses to be earned through unlimited depth. If none of this makes sense to you don’t worry about it.
The most important part about the compensation plan is legal, because it only pays commissions on product sales. LifeVantage has taken an additional step to promote the movement of product that I really like and which does a lot to ensure legality. As with every company, distributors must stay qualified to earn commissions, in LifeVantage this means 200 PV per month in personal volume. The nice part is that the volume generated from personal “preferred customers” reduces personal volume requirements for distributors. This means that as a distributor, if I have enough personal customers consuming product, I can reduce my monthly personal volume requirement down to the minimum of 30 PV.
Behavior rewarded will be duplicated so when you see a company reward the enrollment of true retail “preferred customers” (people buying the product, but not partaking in the business opportunity), you will likely have a high customer to distributor ratio. This ratio is one of the most important things the attorney general and FTC look at when determining if a company is a pyramid scheme or not.
LifeVantage – Company & Leadership
There are a few notable points of interest regarding the company beyond the brief history I’ve already mentioned. LifeVantage is a member of the Direct Selling
Association (http://www.dsa.org/forms/CompanyFormPublicMembers/view?id=44F6200000362) and the BBB (http://www.bbb.org/denver/business-reviews/health-and-diet-products-retail/lifevantage-corporation-in-littleton-co-90014185). They were involved in and settled a lawsuit with Zrii. In this lawsuit, they were alleged to have conspired with former Zrii management/distributors to break contracts and switch to companies. While the lawsuit sought damages of 250 million, it was settled for 400,000. This type of lawsuit is not uncommon in the network marketing industry and in my opinion nothing to be worried about.
As for the leadership behind the company, David Brown, formerly with Metabolife, is the CEO and Dr. Joe McCord, the driving force behind Protandim, is the Director of Science. It is noteworthy that Dr. McCord was the co-discoverer of antioxidant enzymes and their relationship to free radicals in 1968 at Duke University. I also like the fact that LifeVantage has experienced in-house legal counsel with Eric Marchant, who has counseled multi-national hundred million dollar MLMs in the past.
A look at the industry and competition…
It is common knowledge that nutrition is the backbone of network marketing industry and there is zero doubt that the health and wellness industry is growing and will continue to grow. On the other hand I think today you have an excess of companies entering into the industry and it is easy to get lost amid the confusion and clutter unless you have something unique… I think LifeVantage has just that. With a low product price point and the kind of research and publicity behind Protandim, I think they are suited to do very well in the network marketing industry.
The final word…
LifeVantage sells a legitimate product at a price point that real customers can afford and markets through a compensation plan that is in my opinion more legally sound than your average MLM. While there is a lot of research and publicity behind this company you still want to be sure your belief is 100% behind it before getting started. In network marketing, belief sells and no amount of research can replace that. Give it a year or don’t give it a month. Lifevantage will work if you work it.

YOu asked to chime on in if we’ve tried the product. I have tried it and I LOVE it – both the Protandim “supplement” and the True Science face cream. I have been using both for about 5 months. While the reduction of oxidative stress at the cellular level provides numerous benefits we cannot necessarily “feel” (see the 4 peer reviewed/published clinicals and studies and/or search “oxidative stress” and XYZ condition or disease), there are benefits that I have personally felt, which I’d like to share. First and foremost was improved sleep patterns and more energy (these probably go hand in hand). Secondly I notice a drastic improvement in my skin (after a very short time of using the cream). I also noticed my overall (body) skin is also much softer and any rough patches/eczema were gone. The main difference for me, however, was the pain in both of my feet (halux ridigidous/arthritis). The pain was pretty bad (I am a runner/athlete) and would throb or I’d experience shooting pains almost every single night. I realized this was gone after probably a month on Protandim. I didn’t expect this benefit at all as at the time I didn’t realize Protandim had anti-inflammatory properties, but it has continued and has made my daily life FAR better with the foot pain virtually gone. That, in and of itself, was enough proof for me besides the compelling scientific research. Many of my customers and distributors have also experienced pain relief (neck, back, knee, etc.).
On the business end (I am a distributor), it is a great business and frankly a lot of fun. It is not my full time job as I have another business, but it is a great supplement to that business and I am able to do it in my “spare” time. I feel very confident that it will prove to be an excellent investment of my time and efforts. I have also found that once people come to a meeting or take the time to learn about the product, they are HAPPY that they have been introduced to the product as it is something that actually helps them (and is proven). I have more customers than distributors and I think that is great . . . .I love that I am helping to improve people’s lives by exposing them to Protandim.
That’s my two-cents on the product and one cent on the company. I highly recommend the products – they are great, effective, proven, and legit.

I’m not here to say that the product is good or bad, only to say that the opportunity is legit. As mentioned in the review, your determination and experience with the product should be a critical part of your review of the opportunity and should be done before joining or pursuing the opportunity,
You can’t argue with Peer Review Journals, 25 year Patent (attatched are 223 heatlh conditions) Better Business Bureau A+, Wall Street and the list goes on all the way down to the cellecular level. $600.00 is way cheaper to start your own buisness rather than thousands of dallors that other companies ask. I just becam a distributor and I know I am going to do well in this business.

It looks like the ingredients they mentioned in the video on their website wouldn’t likely harm anything and I like how westerners are incorporating more traditionally eastern plants and herbs into our diets and medicine. I hope that this turns out to be effective for lots of people.
One concern I have is the independence of the physicians involved in the research. Joe McCord and James Crapo (both in the video) are on the Board of Directors for Lifeline Therapeutics, the company that makes Protandim. Crapo is actually the Chair of the Board. This company changed its name to LifeVantage on 12/8/06, well after it started making Protandim. I worry about the independence of the research when Board members are the ones doing the research. Of course, that doesn’t mean the product couldn’t be helpful, but it calls the research into question and creates a potential conflict of interest.
I’m a 70ish male with hypertension and sleep problems. I took Protandim for 30 days (one bottle) and there were no differences in my sleeping or blood pressure readings. I dislike having to take drugs and was hoping Protandim would do the trick. It may be that the supplement would need to be taken longer, and if there had been any encouraging markers I would have sprung for another bottle. The autoship got me so I’ve got an unopened bottle that I’ll be returning. Good Luck to you all!
Hello. Thank you very much, Shawn, for your completely unbiased review. It was factual, informative and objective. I researched the compnay and product thoroughly before becoming a distributor. I have seen all too often how people automatically become “haters” towards any MLM company just for being Network Marketing.
This is one of the most exciting products I have personally seen in the last 20 years. I first became involved with MLMs at 18yrs old at the behest of my parents. Dabbled in a couple since then, but have been terribly disappointed in either the products, the company or its leadership.
I am very excited about this opportunity. Anyone with the stones to do MLM should not miss this opportunity. I’m very excited at the possiblity to help others with their health and make some money to boot. The corporate events are motivating and definitely worth attending.

I am curious to know if you’ve had a Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS) test done? I believe it would provide the best source for the positive markers that you’re referring to.
As far as not seeing the desired results…I would recommend staying on the product for 120 days, not just 30 as most people see benefits between 60 & 120 days. If you don’t see the desired results after that, feel free to discontinue its use.
It has helped my father in the regard to which you are referring. It’s helped me sleep better. I am a former insomniac. It could also be that the reason for your sleeplessness in psychological, not biochemical.

My husband and I were introduces to LifeVantage about 5 or 6 months ago. We signed up as distributors. It was a hard hit with the initial $600 sign up. I was really the one on the fence and worried. I thought it sounded to much like those other companies like QuicStar that failed us. BUT this is a totally different product then what Quicstar offered. I agree that it is hard to find people to sign up. We have only signed up one person as a distributor in the 5 or 6 months that we have been involved. We have been able to have other friends and family sign up to only purchase the product. It is true to say that LifeVantage does pay and pays on time for signing up distributors and having people buy the product. I am truly not much a a sales person and don’t really have the courage to approach people. So my husband is the one who has been working the hardest at it. About the product……..My husband and I take it daily. Niether of us have any major health issues. But we’re still taking it. HOWEVER, our daughter is 13 and is a Type 1 Diabetic. She is now on her 4 month taking the product. I am here to tell you that it took a few months but the difference in the last month of her blood sugar readings are WONDERFUL!!! Her readings have been in the high 300 and 400 but in the last month they have dropped to 120 to on the high side 190. We are very excited about this and will continue if anything to take the product even if we have a hard time selling it!
It sounds like a very good product. There are many that get into a business and soon leave it; but you sound like you have found personal value using this product. Don’t give up!
Natural combinations work differently in different individuals. I was in another company and at first thought that the product did not work, too. Then a Doctor shared this with me, there is different stages of disease or disorders, the first is when a doctor finds it and you don’t know you have it, the second is when you feel something but you can not identify it, the third is that you can feel it and you know you have it. The last is what is called chronic. Now usage or recommended dose on a bottle is the for someone with no disease or disorder. What I had to do in my condition was to double the dose and then it did what it promised to do.
I pray that you get out of Poverty Mentality and see the Prosperity side. To be successful, you have to make an investment in what you believe in and then develop it, It’s just like buying a house for your family!
My wife and I really like this product! We have been taking this product for 4 month and my bad cholesterol went down. It was 400, horrible! My doctor wanted me to take pills for my bad cholesterol. I did not want to take drugs and thanks to Protandim this is my cardiac risk results: CHOLESTEROL 245 (expected range 140-280), HDL 50 (expected range 25 -75), LDL 163 (expected range 80-200), VERYLOW DENSITY LIPO (VLDL) 31 (expected range 5-40), TRIGLYCERIDES 156 (expected range 10-200). And the rest of my chemistries results, urinalysis results were excellent! my blood pressure was 106/74 and my pulse reading: 64. My wife also had good results from Protandim. She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and when she got her second blood test result it was clear, the result did not show anything on her health, she is ok, now. Great
my question is was is tested on rats?

If you check out the website and look into some of the 20 independent self funded university studies and some that were peer reviewed that might provide you with additional information and ease of mind in regards to the product.
I checked out a few of the studies and was satisfied enough to start taking the pill. I have been on it for approximately 3 weeks and notice much more energy, clarity in thinking and deep sleep. I still play hockey and at 64 yrs young, I manage to hold my old against 30, 40 and 50 yr. olds.
So far I like what I have experienced. My big test will be next month when I visit my cardiologist and we review my blood test results. I will get the blood test done approximately 1 week for my visit.

Hi Vondrena. I also wonder why you need 560 dollars of product to get started. I haven’t tried the product but have ordered some and an anxious to try it. I have been checking this out and it looks good to me. I haven’t had good luck with MLM’s in the past so am leary of that aspect.
I just hope this Protandim will help my family feel better and stay healthier.
The only thing I have to say is keep an open mind. It would be a shame to let a great opportunity pass you buy. It is good to be catious though. If we feel better and it helps with some of our health issues I will definitely become a distributor and tell others. It would be selfish not too.

Lifevantage is not a pyramid, and like many many good companies they are in a reformation period. That reformation is well led with good leaders at the helm who are working to control costs and increase revenues. Historically this is not a good economic time for many companies. I have bought many penny stocks on the OTC boards in the past during down times and turned a very good profit as the economy moved in a positive direction again. CNQR Concur Technologies was on the OTC board back in Jan. 2000 (shortly after 9/11) it was selling for .38 cents per share. Currently Concur is selling at $47.49 per share. Marvel (the comic book company) was also sitting at less than $2.00 per share during this before mentioned time. Marvel was recently bought by Disney and topped out at $54.08. Other long term large companies are struggling with lower stock prices also, to me this does not necessarily indicate insolvency but opportunity. I personally am a user of Protandim, if you have not tried it you may not understand why I think this company will be a giant success in the future. Hopefully, you will try it…really it is amazing!

If no one else has answered your question, yes they have done some of the tests on rats, however, the clinical study done on the reduction of oxidative stress was done on humans. 100% of the test subjects between the ages of 20 and 78 saw a 40-70% reduction in thier oxidative stress levels. I started on ” Protandim ” 4 months ago, but only to ” try it out ” as a wholesale customer.After just 20 days of being on the product I thought to myself ” I ought to give this a fair try of 90 days “. Because you do not feel high oxidative stress any more than you feel high cholesterol.”

I’ve had a great experience with Protandim. I’ve been on it for 9 months and it has been a life saver for me. I had chronic fatigue syndrome for 7 years and nothing was working until Protandim. I now have lots of energy and have resumed activities that were impossible such as lifting weights and hiking. My energy level is high all day, my mental focus is good from the moment I get up, my chronic sleeping issues are history, my mood is upbeat, I look and feel better in every way. Aches and pains are gone along with a mysterious salt intolerance that kept me from eating in restaurants.
Just try it is my advice! There is plenty of proof. The biggest problem I have telling people about Protandim is that is sounds too good to be true. Don’t let that stop you. One thing that might help convince you is viewing the ABC Primetime investigative report on it. They play hardball and you will see that what they found was the real deal. Commit to taking it for 3 months. Sometimes there is a lot of repair work going on inside that doesn’t break through to noticable changes for a few weeks and you could miss out if you don’t stay the course. I love seeing people improve. I know all too well how frustrating ill health can be, thank God I tried it!
The company is fabulous. I have had the great advantage to work closely with a lot of the successful founding distributors who happen to live in my area. I have also attended numerous company and distributor run trainings and also conduct them myself. It is the most helpful group of network marketers imaginable. They even support each other cross line. You will love it.

My energy level is high all day, my mental focus is good from the moment I get up, my chronic sleeping issues are history, my mood is upbeat, I look and feel better in every way. Aches and pains are gone along with a mysterious salt intolerance that kept me from eating in restaurants.
Just try it is my advice! There is plenty of proof. The biggest problem I have telling people about Protandim is that is sounds too good to be true. Don’t let that stop you. One thing that might help convince you is viewing the ABC Primetime investigative report on it. They play hardball and you will see that what they found was the real deal. Commit to taking it for 3 months. Sometimes there is a lot of repair work going on inside that doesn’t break through to noticable changes for a few weeks and you could miss out if you don’t stay the course. I love seeing people improve. I know all too well how frustrating ill health can be, thank God I tried it!
The company is fabulous. I have had the great advantage to work closely with a lot of the successful founding distributors who happen to live in my area. I have also attended numerous company and distributor run trainings and also conduct them myself. It is the most helpful group of network marketers imaginable. They even support each other cross line. You will love it.

Unbelievably, I have ended up as a full time network marketer after thinking I would never join another company, and I am loving it. The timing of this company is perfect-but don’t delay! You will need to be on the product for longer than 30 days to see results happen with things like Type2 diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol… I’d give it a solid 6 months..Getting your TBARS tested is not something the average person can do. This is a laboratory test and it is highly controlled….it’s very very expensive. If you know of a blood microscopist who could check blood under a scope and then recheck it 3-6 months later… that would be your best bet.
Be careful about trying this product through Lifevantage at expos, etc. When you do, they put you on an auto ship plan even when you tell them specifically that you just want to try the product for one month and that is what they charge you for. Of course, you can talk to their “Customer No Service”–Heidi with all of her apologies about “The system can’t do this, The system can’t do that”….Do they think we are idiots? We know what “The System” is! It is Poor Management!

I hear your frustration and feel that you had a bad experience that is probably unusual to have when dealing with this company. I have only just signed on to be a distributor a few days ago. I have been in a few network marketing companies and I know that some people are only in it for the money, or it is very possible that wires got crossed in your communication with whoever you spoke with at the expo. Not trying to say you are wrong in your feelings….Just saying that I have done nothing in the past 5 days but look into this company and the product; Protandim. My husband is just now in remission with Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma but is still having his white blood-cell counts going up and down and it doesn’t look good….. To both of us, this product is looking more and more like our saving Grace;
As far as the people we have talked to who are in Life Vantage, we have found every single one to be informative, helpful and down-to-earth. I hope that this is the case from here on out! Please don’t judge a company (and especially a great product) by one individual who may not really know what they are doing!
This is a scientifically proven product that is helping thousands of people! People ask me how this product can help in so many different areas of diseases. In light of the above, how is it that you can state that Protandim was successful in treating the symptoms of CFS???
Furthermore, I also note that your (entirely unfounded) claim concerning the curative ability of the product appears to be in breach of LifeVantage’s Policies and Procedures (the agreement which you are governed by when you signed up as a distributor) which specifically states
8.11.2 – Product Claims
No claims, which include personal testimonials, as to therapeutic, curative or beneficial properties of any products offered by LifeVantage may be made except those contained in official LifeVantage materials. In particular, no Independent Distributor may make any claim that LifeVantage products are useful in the cure, treatment, diagnosis, mitigation or prevention of any diseases or signs or symptoms of disease. Not only are such claims violations of LifeVantage policies, but they potentially violate federal and state laws and regulations, including the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and Federal Trade Commission Act.
As it stands, I have enough to lodge a complaint with LifeVantage, the FDA AND FTC for the illegal and unethical manner in which you have promoted the product. I’d recommend you check with the company as to the claims that you’re actually allowed to make – noting that the company are also liable for any breaches of the law by distributors such as yourself.

I think the only oxidative stress occurring is to your brain. Have you actually read through the publications you’re referring consumers to???? If so, feel free to demonstrate your understanding of these…..this I HAVE to hear!!!

Cindy Sams (LiveVantage Distributor # 150434) – you are illegally promoting Protandim as a disease cure and thus not complying with company policy. You are also not complying with the U.S Code of Federal Regulations (Food & Drug Act) – noting that even using implied medical claims to market a product which isn’t FDA approved isn’t allowed. Furthermore, the testimonials you have posted do NOT adhere to the FTC Guidelines concerning what the “typical” result can be expected – noting that typical results have to be able to be substantiated and that disclaimers such as “results may vary” are NOT a safeguard for making atypical claims. Both you and the company are liable for the breaches of the law.
It angers me to no end to see frausters such as yourself promoting the product in the unlawful manner that you do.
And what the hell are your qualifications that enable you to advise on or promote any products for the treatment of elevated blood pressure and cholesterol, treatment for diabetes or any of the conditions you have listed (including cancer!) - a personal trainer??!! In other words, you aren’t qualified to pull a splinter from an arse. Pfft….what a joke!
